Conceived and curated by Thierry W Despont, in cooperation with the Marlborough and Steinitz galleries, the exhibition Le Cabinet de Curiosités was a unique installation in which contemporary art converged with antique furniture and architecture to create a setting that was both ancient and otherworldly.
The exhibition featured works by artists Marlborough Despont, Manolo Valdés and the late Claudio Bravo (the first posthumous exhibition of his works), as well as an eclectic set of rare items from the Steinitz COLLECTIONS. An immersive environment comprised of Steinitz furniture and antiques, interspersed with Valdés' trompe-l'oeil Libreria sculptures, Bravo's hyperrealistic paintings, Despont's Nebula paintings of imaginary celestial orbs, and his fantastical sculptural creatures assembled in from found objects and tools, all combined to create a multi-sensory experience evoking a sense of wonder and fantasy.
